Cerro Mar Colina is set near the resort of Albufeira which makes an excellent base to book a holiday if you want to explore the Algarve. It's central position on Portugal's south coast makes it easy to reach other Algarve resorts.

Before the sixties Albufeira was just a charming fishing village, but since the dawn of tourism the town has transformed into one of the biggest and debatably the finest resorts on the Algarve. The town is home to less than 14,000 permanent residents and the bigger municipal area (including the town) has just over 35,000. Tourist chiefs estimate that in the main summer months tourists outnumber local residents by eight or 9 to 1.

Albufeira might have expanded massively over the years but the centre of town still has a great deal of charm with charismatic tiny streets aplenty to remind one of bygone days. But dont get theidea that the town is stuck in the past. When the heat of the day subsides the centre of Albufeira changes it's character. There is a massive selection of restaurants, bars and clubs which inevitably begin to fill-up with holidaymakers, frequently spilling out into the surrounding street. The long and short of it is that Albufeira is a fairly lively especially during peak season.

In Albufeira sun worshippers have to decide from a number of good beaches spreading in both directions along the coast from the town. The Portuguese name for beach is Praia so look out the the main beaches are called Praia de Balaia, Praia de Castelo, Praia de Galé, de Olhos d’Agua, Praia de Falésia, Praia de Maria Luisa and Praia de São Rafael. The boating fraternity are now also comfortably looked after in Albufeira in the new marina that has been developed to the west of town adding a touch of style to the town. Those looking at local culture may be interested in a visit to any exhibitions held by the municipal art gallery or the small town museum. The town now also features an unusual Virtual Archaeological Museum if you wish to blast through the past. If you book up for Cerro Mar Colina you will should be able to discover Albufiera at your own pace.
